13 offline Home Business Ideas (Work at Home)

Work at Home
13 Offline Home Business Ideas

I know that I champion starting home businesses that are solely run online, but I am also aware that a variety of skills could sometimes mean that one does not have the passion or skill to pursue an online business. That is where the offline Home business comes into play.

While you can start a Home Business that is basically offline like the ones I will mention below, you cannot afford not to market it online. This because marketing your business online and giving it an online presence even if its just a FaceBook page or an Instagram page will ensure that you succeed.

You can start these businesses at home but they require more local work with individuals or going to other locations with your home as the base. These positions are often just as lucrative as the online businesses but require a little more infrastructure or hands-on work.

Here are 13 businesses you can do as an Offline Home Business.

-In-Home Childcare Provider – If you have a big enough home you can use a portion of it to provide childcare. You can make from 100 to 200 dollars per child depending on your location and the age of the children. You will need to get a license for your state before you start. The good thing about child care is that once you provide good services, you can make more money because word travels about your business and provides you with recurring income.

-Event / Wedding / Party Planner – If you like planning parties from birthday, to weddings, to anniversary or other events, you can make a good living doing it. You’ll need to make connections with caterers, bakers and others who can help you with the parties. You’ll manage everything and put it all together and make sure nothing goes wrong.

-Music Teacher – If you are good with music and know how to teach people to play an instrument, sing, or perform you can become a music teacher from your home. You may need to get a background check to work with kids if the parents are going to leave.

-Soap Maker / Jewelry Maker / Knitter – Making artisan soaps, jewelry, knitting, crocheting and selling the creations at your local farmer’s market, thrift store and even online at a store like Etsy.com is a great way to earn more money in a business of your own. If this is your passion and you do not know how to start an Etsy shop, read my post on Guidelines on starting an etsy shop

-Public Speaker –Do you have a motivational story to tell, have you achieved success that you can help others achieve? If so, you might consider becoming a public speaker. You can get on various speakers lists and make quite a good living speaking. This requires travel, so it’s not working “at” home but your home can be your base.

-Seamstress – If you can sew, you can create a business in a variety of ways from making custom-made clothing or purses to alterations. You can sell online and locally to custom shops by offering a percentage of sales to local boutiques.

-House Cleaner – It might not be romantic but there is a lot of money to be earned in the housekeeping business. People need help due to their busy lives and you can provide that help. You’ll go to their location to do the cleaning, of course, but you can run everything else from your home office.

-Backyard Gardener – If you have at least 1/2 an acre, you can start gardening as a business. You can grow salad vegetables, herbs and more and sell them to local restaurants and even some grocery stores, or set up a stand at your local farmer’s market. If you live in the right location you can set up a stand right there.

Bebe Fashion Accessories

-Pet Groomer – If you love pets, you can clean them and groom them so that they look good. You can do this right from home if you create a little grooming shop in an extra room. Check your local laws to find out the rules of regulation.

-Personal Chef – Do you like cooking special meals? If so you can do that for people in their homes. You shop for the ingredients, cook them in the client’s house, and then freeze them in labeled containers for the client to heat up later during the week. If baking is your passion you can take a look at my post on how to start an online baked goods business.

-Furniture Maker – Have a knack for building things with woodworking equipment? You can create new items from scratch or you can refurbish and then sell older items. This business can be quite lucrative and start as a hobby. if you like to refurbish old furniture and resell it, you may find that eBay is your best bet for selling your refurbished items. often you will find that you may find old and discarded furniture which you can repurpose and sell for a profit. Take a look at my post to see places where you can re sell used items.

-Landscaping Services – Got a lawn mower and some equipment you can start a landscaping business. Even if all you do is mow lawns and edge them you can earn a good living during the season. You can easily make 30 to 40  dollar an hour.

-Interior Decorator – If you have a way with color, staging furniture and making a house feel like a home you might want to start an interior decorating business. You will earn money based on the total budget so you’ll need to be good at getting discounts from suppliers. Another interesting thing about this line of job is that you can earn money from designing the Home and picking our the materials needed while you outsource the main job of actually implementing the design to someone else.

That way you are able to get more time to put into your creative passion of designing the concepts.

Is your Home Business ready for the Holiday season?(read these 5 tips)

Black Friday sales, Holiday season
Home Business Holiday Season

The holiday season has started out already from Black Friday sales set to hit this week to Cyber Monday, Christmas sales, Small business Saturday to end of the year outright sales etc, actually I will say this my post is a bit late but between lining up  other posts, this kind of slipped my mind but better late than never.

If you have been a constant reader of my Blog you will know by now that I am that woman that believes in encouraging stay at home moms and any other person that is interested to start a Home business that supports their lifestyle. This is because I believe that what one does for a living should allow you to enjoy life as well and not just squeeze in your own lifestyle into it.

The Holiday season has already begun and of course, some early birds already have their gifts all wrapped and set to go.

If you are a Home Business owner no matter what is it you sell, this is a season when you will be selling more so why not be strategic about making the most of this season.

To enable you to do just that, I have some 5 tips you could make use on to ensure a successful Holiday season business delivery

1 Check your Sales Data from the last Holiday Season

This data will give you an idea of what worked last year and what did not work, that way you can learn what to tweak in other to get moving for the Holiday season.Y

-Your ability to pull this data out and have a thorough look will also reveal to you what marketing channels were the best in pulling over your customers and getting them to buy.

-If you just started your Home business this year as a result of reading my Blog then this is obviously your first sales season, I will advise that you look out your last 90 days of sales and know what has worked for you and what has not worked that way you can identify your top sellers and stock up on that product.

-You can also use that information you have gotten to plan your marketing campaigns, what are the advertising channels that have given you more sales than others? what can you do to increase your sales via those channels?. Remember that the season flies by fast so this is not the time to be trying out new sales strategy but the time to use proven marketing and sales strategy to get your customers.

2 Prepare your Marketing and sales strategies:

In this season, there will be a lot of people willing to buy products because it is the season for gift giving but this does not mean that you should not plan to target your ideal customers in your marketing campaigns.

-Set up your marketing campaigns to hit the sweet spot for your consumers, offer deals and discounts that will enable people who will not ordinarily buy from you to capitulate and buy from you.

-Your marketing strategies should be geared towards ensuring that your most converting audience: be it on Instagram, Facebook or via emails will be targeted and given the opportunity to buy from you.

3 Season proof your website:

-Your Website is your Mobile shop front, so you have to ensure that you are ready to sell at any point in time that your customers find you.

-Ensure that your sales cart is working well, test it out to be sure that there are no hitches in purchasing your products to avoid a high rate of abandoned carts.

-Ensure that you have a good customer service line or email available to attend to customer requests and issues and ensure speedy resolution of issues that may arise from purchasing your products. This will create repeat purchase from new customers and make them loyal to you.

-Advertise your coupons or discounts codes clearly for anyone that is on your site so they can know that there is a discount or sales period currently ongoing in your shop or business. In fact, do everything possible to ensure that anyone who visits your site is aware of what possible deals are on currently ongoing.

-Ensure that your site is Mobile friendly, Most people will access your website via their mobile phones ,so ensure that your site is tested ahead for mobile friendliness, you can check it out right now here. If there are issues, fix it and get ready.

-Check with your payment platforms to ensure that you have a sizeable limit that will accommodate your sales period, this is to avoid shut down of your account during the sales period.

-Protect your Site from Hacking and other security-related issues. Take correct security measures like installing an SSL certificate for your site if you haven’t already, putting in security plugins like Loginizer and wordfence. Ensure that your site is security proof to avoid theft of credit card details from your site.

4 Stock up on inventory

This will only apply to you if you are selling tangible products only if you are selling digital products you only need to create them once and set them on automation and you are good to go. However, if you are selling physical products which need to be made then you have to take it into consideration while preparing your store for the holiday season. Your diligent preparation will ensure that you do not run out of inventory during the holiday season.

If drop shipping is your method for your home based business, then you have to contact your suppliers or vendors to ensure that they have a good stock of products that will fulfill all your orders during the holiday season. I believe that proper communication will ensure a seamless build-up and delivery of products and services without hitches.

-It’s also important to clearly set out your delivery days and how long it will take for your products to arrive at your customer’s doorstep, this will ensure that you have fewer refunds and returns and also reduce the loss of customers.

5 Market Like a Pro:

Prepare yourself for the very big sales days e.g Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas sales and small business Saturday. These are days that a lot of people are offering huge discounts to attract customers, ensure that your products you have on sale have these price markdowns visible where your customers are can see it so they know what is available. Trust me nothing makes shopping for Christmas or any occasion for that matter better like 20% off the original price. It often makes one feel like you are getting a good deal.

To ensure that you drive this season to the get the last bit of sales, set a target for yourselves in this season and aim to beat it.

With these preparatory tips in your kitty and your commitment to apply it, your sales season should be a breeze.

I know that many people know the online marketplace giants  like Amazon, Ebay and Etsy  I will leave it and go to the less known but also popular and unique online market places this will make it easy for you to make a decision as to which one you would like to start with. As you read through, you will be able to make a decision based on the online marketplace you like most.

When you open the online marketplace you will notice that their items are quite pricey, of course it denotes the quality of what they have to offer so you can judge how to position your shop. It costs about a 100 dollar for the first time set up fee, they also charge various fees for the different categories of items. Click here for further details.

The good thing about this online marketplace is that they enforce MAP(minimum advertised price), this means there is a threshold to which you can price your products, this prevents unnecessary price wars and helps ensure that every one has a good price fro their products.

Millions of shoppers use Wanelo as their place to shop for items they love without having to set foot in a brick and mortar shopping mall. They can shop from their different brands and combine all into one shopping cart. Kind of like your regular Polyvore without having to visit each shop independently.

Your shop is then sent in for approval, once approved you can begin to upload pictures  of products you wish to sell. Ultimate cheat sheet on Newbie Blogging

Newbie Blogging
Ultimate Cheat Sheet for Newbie Blogging

I started my Blogging Journey after  I read a book written by Anik Singal of Lurn Nation Inc, that book is Circle of Profit. By this time last year, if you had told me I would be blogging, I would have laughed in your face. I knew what Blogging was but I didn’t understand how it worked. I never knew I will be writing about Newbie Blogging but here am I.

Fast forward some couple of months into the New year, and I read this Book (circle of Profit) that changed my life, that was when I decided to be a blogger. I purchased my domain name and hosting on the 26th of Feb 2017 but I couldn’t put down my first post because I just had a Baby in January.  But then came March and I was able to.

Technically my Blog is about to clock  8 months old. In these 8 months, I have had my highs and lows, I have wanted to quit sometimes but I have kept at it because I knew it was something I wanted to do and because of the impact I am making on stay at home moms who would like to start a home business.

In this 8 months, here are the hard knocks that I will call the Ultimate cheat sheet points for  Newbie Blogging

Your content Matters:

I have written various Blog posts since I started, in fact, my earlier posts are a joke because I didn’t know what I was doing or how to write a proper Blog post. I purposely left those posts because I want to see how far I have come since I have started.

The content you put out on your Blog post matters because without a good content you will not be able to attract your Niche market. I know because  I have written some wishy-washy posts that only attracted me the writer Lol.

As time went on, I have learned to research my Blog posts keenly and be sure that I have enough information that will keep my audience wanting more. Without much information on your Blog post, people will be wondering why you are writing in the first place.

People( Your Niche market) are searching for a solution so when your page turns up you better provide it or they are off. The online world, unlike the real world, does not have time for you to persuade them that you will still provide what they need, people are so busy they barely have up to 5 sec to glance throughout your Blog in search of a solution. You have that much time to get their attention and keep it, where you are not able to keep it you lose them.

How do you know that you are loosing your Niche market?  you can check your bounce rate from your stats, if you have a high bounce rate then chances are that you are not able to hold the attention of the people that read your blog post.  Bounce rate is the percentage of the amount of time that people spend on your Post. Where it is high, its often an indication of not enough quality content or your tags are attracting the wrong people to your pages.

Cultivate your Market:

Except you are blogging for pure pleasure and don’t have any need to monetize your Blog that is when this second point won’t make much sense for you. But if you are planning to monetize then the sensible thing to do is to cultivate your (niche) market. Take the time to plant the posts that they desire and take time to nurture your audience, they are the customers to your business, if you do not nurture them, the Blog won’t grow and your business won’t grow either.

Cultivating your market in Newbie Blogging may mean continuously giving out good content for a while without asking for anything back until your audience can trust you enough to want to pay for content when you ask them to.

In the blogging world, you have to give first before you get so it takes time and energy to keep doing what you are doing until your rewards start coming in. Some people ask how soon can one monetize a blog?, I say it depends on your audience. if you already built an audience before you launched your Blog, then you perhaps may be able to start immediately but if you just started out with zero credibility, then you have to take time to build it.

Networking Matters:

Sometimes the reason why people like to blog is that they feel they can just hide behind a computer system and just type away. Again you can only do that if you have no interest in making money from your blog. If you do have the intention to make money then you have to get out from behind your computer and connect with other people.

That’s how you will get to understand what works and what doesn’t work. You will also learn a ton of stuff from the discussions especially if you join Facebook groups that are important. In these groups, you will be able to see opportunities that will help you grow your blog.

Through networking, you will also increase your chances of gaining access to sponsored posts opportunities that you will literally not have been able to get on your own.

Promoting your Content:

Okay fess up, I have written about promoting your content before in another post but it’s a point that is worth reiterating because people make the mistake of writing a great content and then waiting for the world to discover them. I mean they sit on their behinds and wait but all they hear is crickets.

In this age where attention span is just a flash,  for Newbie Blogging, you have to be out there promoting what you have got or you never get discovered. That’s why you can’t even start a blog without having your socials (I am talking about Facebook, Twitter Pinterest, and Instagram) set up. These 4 social networks are the most basic which you must have before you go anywhere else.  I believe its good practice to start engaging with your audience on these platforms even before you launch your blog.

I made that same mistake and I regret it, my socials are not well built up today because I waited too long to start a socials page for my Blog. Then I only even started Facebook and I never had a share button installed on my Blog until someone pointed it out to me.

You will think that should be something I could have figured out so easily but I didn’t since I am not a blogging pro.  I believe that setting up your social pages and installing your share buttons should come first before you launch your blog post. This is because even when people visit your page and they would like to read it later, the only way they can save it is by sharing on their own social page which gives you more exposure. If they can’t-do that you have lost that opportunity of getting your content out there.

Research the Niche  of your Newbie Blogging and Then go find where they Hang out:

I never understood how powerful the word Niche could be in Newbie Blogging until I started my Blog. When I decided I wanted to blog, I had no idea what my blog will be about.

It took me days of researching and trying to fit my experience and skills to know what I wanted to blog about. I had to then decide what niche I was going to play in. it was quite a tough one but I nailed it when I was able to marry my interest and burning passion with the people that needed it, that’s how I came about blogging about helping stay at home moms start a home business to support their lifestyle.

This was the aspect  I  struggled a lot with and I also know that a lot of Newbie bloggers still struggle with. Sometimes It takes a whole lot of time and perhaps even practice before you are able to narrow down to what really works for you.

In my own case, I knew that my ability to have a home business helped me a great deal to manage the issues of having kids and still earning a living. I then decided that Blogging and its related business will serve me well and also help my audience achieve their main goal of staying at home with their babies while also growing a business. I may not have the typical audience that is easy to sport just like you have maybe Football lovers but I do know that there are millions of women who struggle daily with having to leave their jobs to become a Stay at home mom and also those who want to become one but can’t afford to because they need the income they make from their jobs, still I press on in finding them through the forums and groups I visit and belong to in other to pass to them the help that they need to get to where they want to be.
